What are "Recovery Audit Contractor Audits" (RAC Audits) and should I be concerned about them?

  • Speaker 1: Recovery audit contractor audits, or RAC audits are an audit by a private corporation that contracts with Medicare. These are often called head hunters. They get rewarded by every dollar that they recover for the federal government, so they are incentivized to recover more money. If you get notice of a RAC audit, you should immediately contact an experienced health law attorney, who has knowledge of the Medicare system, and Medicare claims and billing procedures. You can save yourself a lot of money because these RAC contractors will come after you to get the maximum amount that they possibly can.
