I received a letter from my hospital peer review committee advising me of a meeting that I should attend to answer questions. What should I do?

  • Speaker 1: Peer review matters in a hospital are most often doctor to doctor activities that do not involve lawyers in the process that early in the stage. You should contact a healthcare attorney and talk with the healthcare attorney about what is going on in this particular case. You should also do whatever you can to find out what matters the peer review committee or other hospital committee are looking into.
     
    You need to be informed and be prepared to answer questions that they offer but try to find out as much as you can and prepare yourself as much as you can to answer their questions at the meeting. There will be further consequences later on at which you will have the right to be represented by an attorney if the matter proceeds past that stage. Most often, however, it will not.
