Seven Things To Know When You Receive A Notice Of Investigation From The Department Of Health

I received a letter from a company claiming to be a Zone Program Integrity Contractor (ZPIC) for the Medicare Program stating it wanted to audit my practice. What is a ZPIC?

Speaker 1: A Zone Program Integrity Contract, or as one of the corporations that contract with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Studies to help detect and prevent fraudulent claims from being submitted to the government and paid by the government. Often, they are call head hunters, along with the recovery audit contractors, or RACs. The fact that ZPIC, or Zone Program Integrity Contractors has the word integrity in the name, means that it is specifically looking for fraudulent claims and to detect fraudulent claims. This is a serious matter. You should immediately contact a qualified health law attorney with experience with dealing with Medicare audits, and ZPIC audits.
