The attorneys of The Health Law Firm represent Certified Addiction Professionals (CAPs), Certified Dependency Specialists (CDPs), Behavioral Health Technicians (BHTs), Certified Addiction Counselors (CACs), Alcohol and Drug Counselors (ADCs), Certified Prevention Specialists (CPSs), and other certified health professionals who are being investigated by or have disciplinary action started against them by the Florida Certification Board. This includes ethics investigations, misconduct complaints, allegations of professional standards violations, allegations of sexual misconduct, allegations of fraud-related conduct, exploitation of consumers, summary suspension of certification, negotiation of consent orders, and appeal hearings.
You should immediately contact an attorney experienced in dealing with the Florida Certification Board as soon as you learn that there may be a complaint made against you. We recommend that you not make any statement, written or oral, to anyone, including an investigator from the Florida Certification Board, until you have talked to your own attorney. Any statement you make can and will be used against you to build a case where there might otherwise be none.
All proceedings and documents generated as part of a Florida Certification Board Ethics Committee hearing are confidential. This means that you should not talk about it to anyone. It also means that there is no report of this available to anyone, until the proceedings become open to the public. This might never happen.
For a copy of the procedures that are followed in such investigations and disciplinary proceedings, see the Florida Certification Board’s Code of Ethics and Disciplinary Procedures. Always be sure to check its website for a more current version.
