George F. Indest III, the Managing Partner of The Health Law Firm, recently announced that Orlando attorney Michael L. Smith has been certified by The Florida Bar Board of Legal Specialization as a "Board Certified Health Law Attorney." The Florida Bar, with more than 80,000 attorney members, has only 113 attorneys who are board certified in the legal specialty of health law. "This is quite an accomplishment for Mike," Mr. Indest, who is also board certified in health law, said. "Only a few are able to pass the exam and earn this distinction."

Becoming specialized in any legal specialty is a rigorous matter. The attorney must demonstrate that he has a certain number of hours of recent advanced courses and seminars in the legal specialty. The attorney is subject to a comprehensive peer review process. The attorney must also take a special examination in the subject area administered by the Florida Bar.

Mr. Smith, whose practice encompasses different aspects of health care law, including business, corporate, transactional, regulatory and administrative work. His practice also includes professional licensing and business litigation in health law.

He is a registered respiratory therapist as well as an attorney. He is a member of the National Board of Respiratory Care, The American Association of Respiratory Care and the Florida Society of Respiratory Care.

Mr. Smith received his bachelor of science from Nova Southeastern University. He earned his juris doctor from Stetson University College of Law in St. Petersburg. While at Stetson University College of Law, he received a William F. Blews Pro Bono Service Award and Civil Governmental Law Clinic Certificate of Merit.

Mr. Smith practices health law in the firm's main office at 1101 Douglas Avenue, Altamonte Springs, Florida 32714. The firm also has branch offices in downtown Orlando and Pensacola.
